DYERSBURG – Area basketball fans hungry for hoops action will have plenty of opportunities to get a taste of the excitement this weekend as Dyersburg State Community College hosts the annual Elite Eight Classic.
The Lady Eagles and Eagles will be joined by teams from Jackson State Community College, Rend Lake College, Shorter Community College and Coahoma Community College for competition today and Saturday. Games will be held at 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m. each day at the E. H. Lannom Jr. Gymnasium.
Competition tips off with the DSCC women taking on Rend Lake at 2 P.M. Friday, followed by the Jackson State women and Shorter College. The Jackson State men face Shorter at 6, followed by the Dyersburg State men’s clash with Coahoma in tonight’s finale.
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles tangle with Shorter at 2 P.M., followed by Jackson State’s women and Rend Lake. Jackson State’s men meet Coahoma at 6 with the DSCC men and Shorter to close out the weekend.
Dyersburg State begins the regular-season schedule with three consecutive home dates. Beginning Tuesday, the locals get a visit from John A. Logan Community College for a women’s game at 6 and the men’s game at 8 p.m. Walters State visits on Fri., Nov. 9, for night games before Roane State comes calling on Sat., Nov. 10, for 2 and 4 p.m. tussles.
