A Covington defender hangs on to the Choctaws’ ball carrier in early-game action Friday night at Newbern. Deadlocked at 14 at the end of regulation, Dyer County won 28-27 when its defense stopped the Chargers’ two-point conversion attempt in the third overtime period. The win give DC a 1-0 record in Region 7-3A play.

While leaping to haul in a pass, Dyer County’s Jared Hunter takes a hit by Covington defender Donya Dyson (1). Officials called a penalty for pass interference on the play in CHS territory, but DC failed to take advantage of the scoring chance when it lost the ball on downs at the 18-yard line.
After picking off a Covington pass along the visitors’ sideline, Choctaws junior Kyle King (19) put the Big Orange on the scoreboard with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. Chargers defender Donya Dyson (1) gave chase, but couldn’t catch King until he reached the goal line.

Players from both squads, as well as game official Mike Thedford, keep their eyes on DC running back Corey Windle as he breaks into the clear against the Chargers.

Dyer County head coach Adam Renshaw shares some thoughts with Choctaws senior B.A. Davis (33) at the end of regulation play Friday night.
With the game about to enter the first overtime period, DC mentor Adam Renshaw urges his club to keep working for the victory. The Choctaws won 28-27 in three overtime periods.
Dyer County kicker Gabriel Millan (9) and holder Adam Clark (12) respond to what they believed to be a game-winning field goal at the end of the second OT period, only to see officials call the effort wide left.
Dyer County defensive tackle Justin Scott (52) wraps up Charger running back Thomas Hall on a two-point conversion attempt at the end of the third overtime period. Racing in from the left to help stop forward progress is teammate Eric McLin. Stopping the conversion attempt secured the Choctaws’ 28-27 triumph.
