Strong second half lifts Dyersburg to perfect 8-0

Dyersburg snapped a 7-7 deadlock with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to top Crockett County 21-7 Friday night at Alamo.

Tyler Caldwell broke the tie with a 55-yard scoring jaunt and Bobby Ellis sealed the deal with a touchdown scamper from the eight-yard line as the Trojans improved to a perfect 8-0 for the campaign. The victory gives DHS a 4-0 mark against Region 7-3A foes.

The Trojans entertain rival Dyer County for Homecoming 2007 festivities next week. It’ll be a regional title showdown with both Dyersburg and the visiting Choctaws entering the contest with unblemished records in region play.

Overall, Dyer County is 7-1.

Dyersburg, ranked second in the state in the latest Associated Press prep poll, got a second-quarter touchdown on a nine-yard pass from Logan Parker to Victor McLin. The conversion kick by Kyle Youmans gave the Trojans a 7-0 advantage.

Crockett County (2-3, 4-4) evened it up on a 31-yard scoring run by Travis Moser and the PAT from Drew Warren.

Caldwell, back at full strength following an early-season ankle injury, put DHS on top to stay with a big burst with Ellis giving the Trojans some late breathing room.

After eight games, Dyersburg has a scoring average of more than 37 points per outing while allowing an average of just over 11.
