State-ranked DHS improves to 2-0 in Region 7-3A competition, 4-0 overall

Dyersburg wasted little time recording another win Friday night, jumping to a big lead and coasting to a 54-12 triumph at Obion County Central.

The unbeaten Trojans, ranked fourth in the state in Class 3A in the latest Associated Press poll, built a commanding 33-0 halftime lead on the way to their second win in as many outings against Region 7 opponents and fourth victory of the season.

Dyersburg will try to get its fifth win next week when it plays host to Memphis Westwood. Obion County travels to neighborhood rival Union City.

Senior stalwart Rashad Taylor scored four touchdowns for Dyersburg at OCCHS, booking one by the rush, one by pass and two by punt return. Taylor’s return touchdowns were for 60 and 43 yards and he hauled in a 57-yard scoring strike from Trojans quarterback Logan Parker. He also had a 65-yard scoring jaunt from scrimmage.

Tyler Caldwell also scored on a kick return for DHS, carrying a kickoff 80 yards for a six-pointer. Justin Click and Parker added TD runs and kicker Kyle Youmans added six conversion kicks and field goals of 35 and 37 yards.

Obion County scored six points in both the third and fourth quarters.

Dyersburg’s high-powered offense rolled by 248 yards rushing on 28 carries. Taylor led all rushers with 89 yards on just five carries. The Trojans only ran 29 offensive plays and totaled 305 yards.

The winless Rebels managed just 165 total yards of offense in 47 plays.

According to the last AP poll, Knoxville Catholic was the top team in the state in Class 3A, followed by David Lipscomb, Jackson South Side and DHS.
