DYERSBURG - The sounds of marching bands, tweeting whistles and popping pads will fill the air on Aug. 17 when five area football teams visit J.C. Sawyers Stadium for pre-season jamboree action.
Sponsored by McDonald's, Dr. Pepper and Star Physical Therapy, the 24th annual DHS Football Jamboree will kick off the 2007 campaign. Bands will begin performing at 6 p.m. with the Dyersburg choir to perform the National Anthem around 6:22.
Captains from Dyer County and Halls are slated to take the field at 6:25 with the Choctaws and Tigers to tangle in the first of three skirmishes at 6:30.
Obion County Central and Lake County will clash in the second contest of the evening with Gibson County and Dyersburg to close out the evening action.
Bands are also scheduled to play between games.
Teams will play two 12-minute periods in each of the three scrimmages. Kickoffs will be placed on the 30 yard line and punts will be executed without defensive pressure and cannot be returned.
Halls, Lake County and Dyersburg have been designated the home squads with teams and fans to sit on the press box side (west side) of the stadium. Dyer County, Obion County and Gibson County will be the visiting clubs with teams and fans to sit on the side of the stadium (east side) opposite the press box.
Regular-season competition begins Aug. 24 for some area schools with Halls visiting Gibson County, Lake County entertaining Trenton and Obion County playing host to Jackson South Side.
On Aug. 31, Dyersburg will play host to Memphis Frayser and Dyer County will entertain Liberty.
