Mustangs getting started on '07

Huntingdon finishes camp, duels South Side

By JIM STEELE

Huntingdon football coach Mike Mansfield will have a few questions to answer this year about his team.

The Mustangs lost 10 seniors, including one of the best to ever lace them up for the blue and gold: Chris Donald, a member of the Tennessee Vols football team this year. But the Ponies have a significant crew returning, including senior quarterback Cole McAdams.

Huntingdon suffered through some bad breaks and injuries last year and missed the playoffs for the first time since 1992.

Thus far, Mansfield says the start of pre-season workouts hasn't been bad.

"It's gone pretty good," he said. "We had camp last week, three-a-days, and we had a scrimmage with South Side."

The Mustangs always seem to mix it up with the Hawks in spring and in pre-season. This year, the result was a 1-1 draw between the first teamers. The Hawk JV team managed a score over the Mustangs for a 1-0 decision.

"It was a good first outing for both teams," said Mansfield. "Our defense is a little bit behind right now."

The Mustangs will continue to work this week and will hold their media day 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9.
