Dyersburg High School standout Allyson Agee clubbed her way into the Top 10 in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s Class A-AA state golf competition Wednesday, finishing the two-day event with a score of 163.
According to scores announced by the TSSAA, Agee carded an 11-over-par 83 in the opening round and closed out the tourney with an eight-over-par 80 on the final day of play to finish tied for ninth place.
The tournament was held at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
It was the second consecutive season for Agee, a DHS junior, to compete in the state tournament. Last year, she finished in the Top 25.
The girls’ 2007 individual championship went to Shelby Gilbert, a junior from Chattanooga Notre Dame, with a two-day total of 146. Peyton Ritchie, a junior from Donelson Christian Academy, was the runner-up four shots back at 150.
Christi Meeks, a senior from Halls High School, stroked a tourney-total score of 181. After posting a round of 98 on Tuesday, she bounced back with a round of 83 on Wednesday.
The girls’ high score in the event was 220.
Adam Clark, a golfer from Dyer County High School, finished the tourney with a score of 156. The senior linkster shot a five-over-par 77 on Tuesday before closing out the event with a seven-over 79.
Goodpasture senior Joe David was the boys’ individual champion with a nine-under-par total of 135. After carding a 64 to begin the event, he closed out play with a 71, good enough to nip David Lipscomb senior Dylan Waters by two strokes.
Scott Metcalf, a senior at University School of Jackson, finished four shots back at 139.
The boys’ high score in the two-day event was 190.
In team competition, Donelson Christian Academy won the girls’ championship with a score of 313. Anderson County was the runner-up at 322, followed by Notre Dame (329), University School of Jackson (329), Pigeon Forge (346), Portland (352), Hickman County (355) and Bolivar Central (362).
