DYERSBURG - In a game of numbers, the ones that mattered in Friday night's contest between Dyersburg and visiting Memphis Westwood all belonged to the home team.

And it made for a pretty special homecoming at DHS.

Following the recognition of the 2008 royalty and the crowning of senior Kristen Kerr queen, the Trojans scored early and often in a 65-0 romp past the overmatched Longhorns. Dyersburg displayed plenty of offense, a solid defense and outstanding special teams play.

Seven players scored touchdowns for the Trojans, including two each by junior Xavier Taylor and sophomore Trevor Caldwell. The defense allowed fewer total yards than the number of plays the Longhorns ran from scrimmage and sealed the deal with an all-but-perfect kicking game from senior Kyle Youmans.

Youmans hit the mark on 9-of-9 point-after conversion kicks and sent eight of his 10 kickoffs into the end zone, forcing the guests to begin those possessions at their own 20-yard line.

One thing Youmans didn't do, however, was punt. The Trojans were never forced to boot the ball away.

Dyersburg committed no turnovers, took advantage of three by the Longhorns and won for the fourth time in five outings. At home, the Trojans are 4-0 with the lone loss a stinging, 6-3 setback at Brownsville.

Westwood, now 0-6 for the season, has been outscored 258-18 and shutout in four outings.

Next week, Dyersburg hits the road for only the second time in the campaign when it visits Ripley for a Region 7-3A showdown.

Dyersburg head coach James Counce was glad to get the homecoming win in the books, but stressed the point that the team had to get focused quickly for the upcoming challenge.

"We'll enjoy this one tonight and then start working on the next one," Counce said. "That's the one we've got to have."

Ripley dropped its season-opener to Liberty 22-15, but has since won four straight games. In the victory column for the Tigers is a 42-7 triumph over Obion County Central in their only region outing.

The Trojans are 1-1 in region play with the loss to Haywood County and a 49-6 triumph over Obion County. Against Westwood, Dyersburg put the game away with 28 points in the first quarter. Taylor put the Trojans ahead to stay just 2:42 into the contest with a two-yard scoring burst.

Before the opening frame ended, Dyersburg got a three-yard scoring run from Caldwell, a scoring strike from Jason Click to Hamp Hickman that covered eight yards and a 65-yard interception return by Justin Whitfield.

Westwood's kicking game was weak, giving the Trojans good field position with short kick offs and better opportunities to score when it punted from deep inside its own territory.

One Longhorns punt went for negative yardage, seven in the game averaged just over 23 yards and one attempt turned into a safety for DHS when the snap sailed out of the back of the end zone.

Ahead 30-0 following the safety early in the second quarter, Dyersburg added more. A 5-yard scoring run from Caldwell at the 7:35 mark of the frame gave the Trojans a 37-point cushion at the half.

Rushing touchdowns by Click and Taylor made it 51-0 after three. Scoring plays by Tyler Lyons and Chase Brown in the fourth quarter capped the 65-0 affair.

The Longhorns managed just 24 total yards of offense on 31 plays from scrimmage. Westwood tried to run the football 24 times and was held to - 6 yards on the ground. It lost a fumble, gave up two possessions with interceptions and recorded just two first downs in the contest.

Dyersburg had 14 first downs and finished with 292 total yards, 258 coming on the ground.

Click led the Trojans with 89 rushing yards on seven carries. Taylor carried the ball eight times for 57 yards. Lyons tacked on 47 yards rushing on just two carries, including a 33-yard scoring run. Caldwell posted 41 rushing yards on eight carries.

Click was 2-of-3 passing for 26 yards. Brown completed his one pass attempt for eight yards and added 21 rushing yards on three carries, including one run of 14 yards.
