DYER - Arnold Chase’s score with 1:28 remaining gave the Gibson County fans something to cheer about even though the scoring drive was mounted on the Bulldogs second team defense.

The 40-6 victory for the No. 2-ranked Milan Bulldogs doesn’t do the team justice as they totally dominated every aspect of the game at Yates Field. That’s right fans, they are that good.

Milan coach Jeff Morris was pleased with his team’s overall performance tonight.

“We played pretty well," Morris said. "Gibson County gave us several different looks offensively, but I think that we adjusted to that as the game went on and we had a pretty solid performance.”

After opening the game with an eight-play scoring drive, capped off by junior Jobronski Gilbert’s rushing score in the first quarter, Milan capitalized on Gibson County’s special-teams mistakes throughout the evening. The Pioneer’s punting attempts were adventurous at best with high snap problems, giving the Bulldogs the ball deep in Gibson County territory numerous times.

Scoring for the Bulldogs seemed effortless as Gilbert found pay dirt four times and senior quarterback Justin Coleman hooked up with Clay Anderson twice on the night.

Even though Milan dominated the game, Morris tipped his hat to the effort the Pioneers gave.

“Gibson County is better,” said Coach Morris, “they hit you better up front, and they have some skilled people that can do some things and they are fast. We beat a team that is improved and they (Gibson County) did well.”

The Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 in Region 8-2A) now prepare for a trip to Camden 7:30 Friday, Sept. 12. The Lions (2-0; 1-0 in Region 7-2A) are coming off a 35-13 victory over Riverside.

The Gibson County Pioneers (1-1; 0-1 in Region 8-2A) will travel to Trinity Christian Academy in a non-region match up, also 7:30 Friday night. The Lions (1-1; 1-0 in 8A) defeated Manassas 23-22 in Region 8A action this week.
