JACKSON - TRINITY, PEABODY OPEN WITH TIE: The 2008 Sports Plus Jamboree kicked off Friday night under drizzling conditions that continued all night. The first game featured the Trinity Christian Academy Lions and the Trenton Peabody Golden Tide. The theme of the game was missed opportunities. Both teams could not capitalize due to stingy defenses and some costly turnovers. TCA’s Jabriel Washington and Hagan Nelson had impressive showings for the Lions. They will be key to the Lion’s success this season.

4A LIBERTY UPENDS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF JACKSON: TThe Crusaders used multiple looks on offense while the Bruins went predominantly in the air Other than one big play by the Bruins, Liberty eliminated USJ opportunities. On the last series quarterback Spencer Brooks hooked up with Kenna Husley in the last play of the drive for a 30-yard touchdown reception. The Crusaders used the speed of running back, Bryson Crowder and solid quarterback play by Spencer Brooks in the 16-6 victory over the Bruins.

MILAN IMPRESSIVE IN BLANKING JACKSON CENTRAL-MERRY: The Bulldogs were dominant throughout as they marched down the field on their 8 play 70 yard drive. The Cougars could not mount anything as they saw purple shirts in the backfield all night. Star running backs J.W. Williams and Jobronski Gilbert saw limited carries as mass substitutions were enforced. Fullback Adkisson capped off the night for the Bulldogs with a 23-yard TD run in a 21-0 Milan victory.

Coach Morris said his team playe pretty well for the most part.

“We executed well tonight," Morris said. "I thought our offensive line played well.”

JONES' 45-YARD FIELD GOAL LIFTS JACKSON CHRSITIAN PAST NORTH SIDE: The Indians were without star running back Cordiarius Mann who was out because of injury, but manage a 3-0 jamboree victory over the Eagles. JCS had running back Will Johnson returning from his first game back since a knee injury last summer. JCS quarterback Cody Jones connected with receiver Will Johnson for a 14-yard completion, which set up Cody Jones’ 45-yard FG for the winner. Both teams had trouble moving the ball during this defensive stalemate.

North Side coach Pat Massey said, “We had good effort tonight. JCS has a good team.”

HUMBOLDT GOAL-LINE STAND PROPELS VIKES TO WIN OVER SOUTH SIDE: Humboldt quarterback Will Massoud kept the Hawks off balance throughout the contest and led the Vikings to a 3-0 jamboree victory over host South Side.. He led his team down into field-goal territory late in the game using his agility and speed. But it was his key completion on third and long that put the Vikings in business. Kicker Luke Wilson followed with a 29-yard field goal late. The Vikings held on with a huge red-zone stand to win.

“We were fortunate," said Dan Bland, Viking coach and former NFL performer. "We’re a young team looking to improve.”
