Roberson, Cole tops in Dyer County meet

Obion girls, Dyersburg boys win team events

Special to pressbox1.com

NEWBERN - Dyer County's Chelsey Roberson crossed the finish line at 21:21 in her own high school's cross country meet Tuesday afternoon.

Roberson continues to lead the region and be one of the top runners in the state. She recently won the West Tennessee Classic and set a new school record for 5k in 19:48. She was also 3rd at the Tennessee Classic in Nashville out of about 200 runners. She had some elite company.

McKenzie's Mark Cole ran a 17:03 to capture the boys' overall title in the meet. Cole was the state runner up in the Class A-AA meet last November and has cut time in hopes of challenging Macon County rival and defending state champ Brandon Mahaney.

In girls' action, Hannah Blalock of Poplar Bluff, Mo. was second, followed by Heather Butler of Dyer County, Paige Waldron and Hannah Austin, both of Dyersburg, Kelsey Barnes of Obion Central, Jordan Jones of Obion Central, Amanda Henson of Hardin Co., Rebecca Bartusiak of Munford and Sara Beth Byars of Dyersburg.

Following Cole was Travis Blalock of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Loren Newsom of Dyersburg, Andrew Sanders, Genaro Marinenz of Dyersburg, Shannon Turner of Dyersburg, Tallon Scott of Dyersburg, Codi Moore of Dyer Co., Joshua Gale of Obion Central and David Giles of Munford.

Obion Central's girls won the team title with 44 points, Gibson County was second at 58 and Dyersburg third at 59. In the boys' meet, Dyersburg won the trophy with 25 points. Obion Central was second at 82 and Munford was third at 105.
