Middleton bows out in state semifinals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middleton, despite frigid shooting, made a game of it against Jackson County in the Class A state semifinals at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.
The Lady Tigers were as close as four points, 22-18, mid way in the third quarter when Jackson County slowly crept to a 7-0 run between the third and fourth quarters. That's all the Lady Blue Devils needed to keep Middleton at arm's length.
Jackson Co. won 44-32 to improve to 31-5 and will face Moore County in the Class A state championship. Moore County defeated Chattanooga Arts & Sciences 41-30 in the other semifinal.
Middleton connected just 11 times from the floor in the game and shot 27 percent. Though leading 9-8 after one, From there, the Lady Blue Devils incrementally put distance between them and the Lady Tigers. JC led 19-13 at the half.
Laken Leonard's bucket with :44 left in the game gave the Lady Blue Devils their largest lead of the game, 44-30. Middleton simply didn't shoot well in the final three frames and it was costly.
Leonard led Jackson County with 22 points. Emily Bowman and Victoria Stafford each had eight and Jessica Garland scored six.
Tataurus Howser led Middleton with nine points. Coresia Berry and Sharon Morgan had eight each. Kristina Elliott and Shanita Polk each scored two.
