MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The scorebook doesn't look a whole lot different than it did Wednesday when Gibson County won its Class AA quarterfinal game.
In Friday's 2A semifinals at Monte Hale Arena on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, Heather Butler scored 32 points, was 9-10 from the floor, 10-11 from the line and the Lady Pioneers appeared to be headed for defense of their state championship.
Gibson County, 34-1, bludgeoned South Greene 81-42 in a game that was never close. The Lady Pioneers exploded from the gate to take a 25-9 first-quarter lead.

As a team, Gibson County was 29-61 from the floor for 47.8 percent. From the free throw line, it was 15-18. The Lady Pioneers hit eight triples as well. It was all Gibson County all the time.
Gibson County will face either Martin-Westview, a district and regional foe, or McMinn Central. Both are state-tournament veterans.
Heather Griffin had 27 points and 12 rebounds for GC, Aubrey Reedy had 13 and 11.
After three periods, Gibson Co. led 75-34.
Ansley Ricker was tops for South Greene, 26-7, with 13 points. Maelyn Cutshaw scored nine. Brandi Crum and Shelby Hicks each had six. Rechelle Dye scored five.
