DYERSBURG - Both local high schools coasted to easy wins Tuesday in their District 14 A-AA volleyball tournament openers, setting the stage for an emotional and heated showdown in the Thursday night’s championship round.
The host team downed Humboldt 25-7, 25-8 and 25-8 to earn its berth in the title round. Dyer County bested Gibson County 25-2, 25-8 and 25-22 to move into the finals.
The championship will be held at 6:30 Thursday night at DHS.
In regular-season play, both local visiting squads won on the opposition’s own court. With just four teams participating in the district event, it didn’t take long for Dyersburg and Dyer County to set the stage for the showdown in the tourney’s title tilt.
Dyersburg coach David Acree substituted often as his Lady Trojans toppled the Lady Vikings. Dyer County coach Beth Ann Pope did the same in the Lady Choctaws’ first two games before allowing her inexperienced players to take care of the finale.
